7 Steps to Create a Winning Google Adwords Campaign

Cheow, November 8th, 2009 · No Comments

Google Adwords is a very effective and popular marketing tool for affiliates. Many affiliates depend fully on Google Adwords to make their living. If you are new to Google Adwords, allow me to share with you 7 steps to create a winning Google Adwords campaign.

Inside Google Adwords, there is a factor known as the Quality Score. If you have a high campaign Quality Score, Google will reward you with lower cost-per-click and higher position for your ads. This means that you will pay lesser than your competitors and still enjoy prominent positions in the sponsored results. Getting a high quality score is something all Adwords specialists strive to achieve.

Now, let me share with you 7 steps to score a high quality score and create a winning Adwords campaign:

1. Keyword research. Conduct keyword research to identify keywords that are relevant to what you are offering. Make sure that you bid on keywords with Exact Match for the start. If you intend to bid on broad or phrase match, you need to ensure that you include negative keywords to filter out unnecessary impressions. This is important because when you have lots of unnecessary impressions, your click through rate will be very low. When you have a low click through rate, your campaign will be slapped with a low Quality Score.

2. Turn off the content network. If you are not experienced with Adwords, I advise you to turn off the content network first. Run your ads on Google search only.

3. Group relevant keywords together. Your ad groups should contain keywords that are closely related so that you can write a more relevant ad for each ad group. The relevancy of your ads is one factor Google looks at when it comes to Quality Score.

4. Split test your ads. Create two ads per ad group and run a split test to determine which ad copy gets you more clicks. The purpose of split testing is to get a better CTR and improve conversions.

5. Adjust your keyword bids accordingly. After you let your campaign run for a few hours, log in to check how much each keyword costs and what position you ads are at. The best position is between two and six. The first position usually gets lots of tire kickers.

6. Eliminate keywords that do not perform. Delete keywords that don’t bring you clicks and conversion.

Google Adwords is a great advertising tool for affiliate marketers. When you run an Adwords campaign, make sure you track the performance so that you know what works and what doesn’t work.

5 Tips to Make Your Affiliate Campaign Convert Better

Cheow, May 10th, 2009 · 1 Comment

To make more money online with affiliate marketing, you must make your campaign convert better. Many affiliates like to use pay-per-click (adwords & yahoo) to promote affiliate products. Pay-per-click is a great method and when you use it correctly, you can generate a good profit from it.

In this blog post, let me share with you 5 tips to make your pay-per-click campaign convert better and boost your profits:

  1. Use your own landing page. Many affiliates drive pay-per-click traffic directly to the merchant’s sales page. Don’t do this. Instead, create your own landing page. When you use your own hoplink (affiliate link) and promote an affiliate product using Adwords, Adwords will only display one of these affiliate hoplinks per search term. This means that you are competing with other affiliates for one adwords position. And usually, it goes to the highest bidder. But with your own landing page, you don’t need to worry about the 1 hoplink per search term issue anymore. This will give you more opportunity to get your ads displayed and usually you will find that your cost per click is lower too.
  2. Optimize your landing page. Your landing page should have keywords that are related to what you are promoting. Make sure that it is optimized with the most profitable search terms. Also, all the keywords that are used in your Adwords campaign should also be placed on your landing page. This is to increase relevancy and improve your Adwords Quality Score. With better Quality Score, you will pay lesser per click.
  3. Use your landing page to capture visitors’ email addresses and names. You can build a profitable list with your landing page by using pay-per-click advertising. Use an autorespondent like Aweber and capture their email addresses and names before directing them to the merchant’s sales page. By doing so, you can send them a series of follow-up messages to build relationships and upsell other products.
  4. Track your campaign performance. Install Google Analytics code on your landing page and track your campaign performance. With this, you will get to see the demographics of what countries people are coming from who click on your ads. This information is very important. For example, if you find that majority of your traffic come from Canada and there is very little conversion from that country, you should stop your ads from displaying there.
  5. Split test your landing page to increase its conversion rate. Test different headlines, sub headers and other elements to increase the conversion rate of your landing page. You can do this for free by using Google Website Optimizer.

Hope that these tips will help you to make your pay-per-click affiliate marketing campaign convert better.

Link Building Tips - How to Build Links and Increase Organic Search Engine Traffic to Your Site?

Cheow, March 8th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing the volume of targeted traffic to your site from search engines via organic search results. When your site ranks high on organic search result listings, you will receive more targeted traffic to your site.

With more targeted traffic, you have more eyeballs to present your offer. To make money with affiliate marketing, quality of traffic is very important. You need lots of traffic as well as qualified visitors. And SEO is one of the best ways to make it happen.

In order to achieve success with SEO, you need to build more back links to your site. This means that you need to get more webmasters to place your site URL on their websites, pointing back to you.

There are many ways to build back links and let me share with you in this post:

  1. Article submission. This is my favourite link building technique. For every article you write, include your site URL in the author resource box.  So, write articles consistently and submit them to a list of SEO-friendly article directories. When your articles are approved and published, you are getting links back to your site.
  2. Directory submission. Submit your website URL to a list of SEO-friendly directories. Some of the more popular directories are Yahoo Directory, DMOZ and BOTW. Although the majority of the directories offer free submission, you need to pay for some popular ones like Yahoo and BOTW.
  3. Online press release submission. The way this method builds back links is quite similar to article submission. You submit a press release with your URL to an online PR company. Once approved, your press release will be syndicated to various authority news sites which will greatly increase the number of back links.
  4. Forum posting. Join your industry forums and participate actively. You can place your site URL in your forum signature and it will be shown in your posts.
  5. Make your site a link bait. What makes your site so attractive that other webmasters will happily place your URL on their sites for their visitors? Answer: Quality content. By writing quality content, you are attracting other webmasters to share your content to their readers by placing your URL on their sites.
  6. Exchange links. Exchange links with fellow webmasters in your industry. When you request for a link exchange, state clearly where you wish your link to be and how you want it to be written. Keywords should be used as the anchor text of your link.
  7. Commenting on other blogs. Leave constructive comments on other people blogs and sign off with your name and URL.

Link building is not a one-time project, it is a process. You must do it consistently.

So, do at least one of the above every day to see results for SEO.
