Being an affiliate marketer is not as easy as ABC. If you want to make a full time affiliate income online, you need to treat affiliate marketing as a business and run it efficiently. Affiliate marketing is a very competitive industry, with millions of affiliates competing for pies of share in different markets. In today’s blog post, we will discuss some of the important mindset that affiliate marketers should adopt so that they will be able to succeed in affiliate marketing.
One of the most important mindset that affiliate marketers should have is to treat affiliate marketing as a full-time business. I know some of you may have your own commitments in other work, but the least that you should do is to have an objective for you to step into affiliate marketing. What is your short and long term goal for affiliate marketing? How much affiliate income are you aiming to make per month? How many days and hours per week can you commit in doing affiliate marketing? All these are very important questions that you need to answer for yourself. Once you have answers for these questions, you can then work backward to achieve each of the goal that you have set. For example, if you decide to step into affiliate marketing part-time, the first thing that you need to determine is how much are affiliate income are you going to make per month - realistically. Then you can come out with the time per week that you can commit to learning and doing affiliate marketing…
A lot of affiliate marketers who just started out do not have a clear objective for themselves. This will make them lose the passion and interest that they strongly have when they first decided to step into affiliate marketing - which in the end make them fall short of their goals.
The next mindset that you must have as an affiliate marketer is to recognize that - the main job of being an affiliate marketer is to direct traffic as fast as possible to the merchant’s sales page. If you have the slightest chance to get your site’s visitors to click on an affiliate banner within the next 5 seconds, make sure you DO IT. The longer they stay on your website, the higher the chance they may just leave without visiting the sales page of your affiliate products. The sales page of your affiliate products should be the ultimate selling page. The merchants have already invested tons of money and effort to come out with a good-converting sales page, so why not let the sales page do the pitching? Try not to make the content in your mini-site seems like a sales pitch or whatsoever if you really want to get more affiliate sales out of it. At the top of your site, you should place call-to-actions (e.g. banners or bolded affiliate hyper-link) that entice visitors to click on your affiliate links right away. Always grab the earliest chance that you have.
Last but not least, you need to build assets for your affiliate marketing business. You need to build assets such as websites, lists, or even competing products in the future. Even if you wish to step into affiliate marketing part-time, I will recommend you to spend a little money on building a website or a review site. At least with the site that you have built, you are owning an asset that will make you money for years to come provided you spend effort to market it.
All right, got to go for lunch, blog again soon.

You can make money online by promoting other people products and earn a commission for every sale resulted from your marketing effort. This is known as Affiliate Marketing. Affiliate marketing is a very huge and competitive industry, and good affiliate marketers can earn a full-time income at home by promoting other people products.
Amazon.com can be considered the pioneer in implementing affiliate programs for people to join. People join Amazon’s affiliate program to promote their books… earning commissions from every sale resulted from their marketing effort. Personally, I don’t think that Amazon’s affiliate program is the best program for us affiliate marketers… simply because they pay peanuts to their affiliates.
I think one of the reasons the commission percentage that Amazon gives to its affiliates is so low because they are selling physical products. Merchants who are selling low-sale-ticket physical products have cost to cover. That is why it is very difficult for them to give affiliates a nice commission. However, they don’t understand that full-time affiliates love high commission and it is the main source of motivation for them to promote the product…
The time and effort spent on promoting an Amazon product is quite similar when compared to promoting digital products (such as e-book/software). But the commission of promoting a digital product is way much higher than an Amazon product… so it really doesn’t make sense for me not to favor digital products. =)
Usually, merchants who sell softwares and e-books tend to give very high commission (I am looking for at least 60% commission for each sale) to their affiliates. This is because, their product cost is very, very low. So if you really want to earn a full-time income from affiliate marketing, go to Clickbank.com and look for digital products to promote now.
To make money in affiliate marketing, you need to treat it like a real business. If you treat it as a part-time hobby, you will make part-time affiliate income. This is because other competitive affiliate marketers are working their ass out everyday to make more affiliate money online… If you are not focused on it, it is natural for you to lose some of your affiliate profits to them.
Before you start promoting an affiliate product, you need to do your own research. Research is the key to affiliate marketing success. There is a saying that one should promote a product that he or she has interest in. I think this is the MOST MISLEADING information! Why? Because promoting a product that you are interested in does not mean that your target consumers will love it. You need to look for hungry market full of buyers… not a market that is your hobby. Yes, you can make a few sales here and there by promoting your hobby product (let us take it that this hobby product is not in a hungry market), but it will be very hard for you to make a full time affiliate income with this.
You need to find a market with people who are so willing to take out their credit cards to buy from you because they WANT TO SOLVE THEIR IMMEDIATE PROBLEMS… This is why you need to do your research and find the right niche to enter.
After you have chosen a niche/market to enter, it is now time to test it out. To make sure that the niche that you are entering can convert, the only way to know is to test the market. Power up your Words processor and do some article marketing. When you are writing your articles, make sure that you apply BUM Marketing technique to it. If you can get a few sales with bum marketing effort, you can go on to create a mini-site or squeeze page to actively market the product.
To do well in affiliate marketing, you need to be different. There are so many other affiliate marketers around, therefore you really need to differentiate yourself from them. Once you have found a profitable niche, start building your own assets. Some examples of assets in affiliate marketing are lists, mini-sites, squeeze pages, free report to give away, or even your own competing products.
Do not just depend on article marketing, bum marketing or Squidoo to make affiliate sales. This is because the level of entry for these methods are way too low… ANYONE can easily enter and become your competitor. You need to build your own assets, websites, brands… and lastly your own product… in order to totally become an authority figure in the niche that you are in. This way, you will raise the level of entry and your competitors will not be able to so easily challenge you in the niche.
There are many things to learn in affiliate marketing and I believe I will always be a student in the art of affiliate marketing. Hope that this post can bring you some insights about affiliate marketing.
P.S: Last but not least, here is a resource that i strongly recommend anyone who wish to succeed in affiliate marketing to purchase. Yes, it is a selling product, not a free book. I purchased it last month and it really open up a lot of insights and ideas for me in affiliate marketing. Check it out yourself.

An affiliate marketer is someone who knows how to market other people products effectively on the Internet and earn commission for every sale resulted from his or her effort. Today, the affiliate marketing industry is getting more competitive. If you go to Google, you can see that there are a lot of affiliate marketers using Google Adwords to promote all kinds of product that you can think of… weight loss…. online dating… psp games, etc. So how can you stand out from the rest?
A successful affiliate marketer can definitely earn a substantial income online. Myself is an affiliate marketer but I am doing it part time because i still have an physical online agency to run during the day. However, with consistent part-time effort, it is possible for me to generate a substantial income purely from affiliate marketing too! Below are earnings from one of the my Clickbank account:

With part-time effort in affiliate marketing, this income is definitely possible. However, this is sometimes not enough. If you are full time into affiliate marketing, you need more than this. You need to become more successful and make more money online to support your lifestyle.
The reason i posted the income here is not to boost and there is nothing to boost about… anyone who determine to do it can definitely achieve this income too! For those of you who are still in pursuit of substantial affiliate income, i urge you not to give up. Making money online with affiliate marketing is definitely possible.
Now… let me share with you 5 hot tips to become a successful affiliate marketer:
- Always be willing to learn. You can’t be the best marketer around… there will surely be someone who is better than you. If you want to excel in affiliate marketing, you need to continue educate yourself. Study what other affiliate marketers are doing and try out their techniques. With more information and knowledge, you can leverage them to increase the bottom line of your affiliate earnings.
- Build lists. One of the biggest disadvantages of being an affiliate marketer is that you are not the owner of the product or brand that you are promoting. This means that you are helping the merchant to build up their brands and drive traffic to their sales pages. These merchants are sitting happily behind their desks, with all the hardworking affiliate marketers helping them to come out with the best marketing strategies to drive traffic and get sales. Therefore, you need to build up your own asset while doing affiliate marketing - which is to build lists for different niches. Your lists are your best assets and you can leverage on them to establish yourself as an expert or brand for any particular niche. Just make sure that you provide solid content to your subscribers.
- Be consistent in your work. Affiliate marketing is not a one-time process. When you start to see traffic, opt-ins or sales coming in, it does not mean that you should stop marketing. To build a long lasting affiliate business, you need to continue to pump in those targeted traffic to your squeeze pages and convert as many subscribers as you can. Only with this, you can then earn a full-time income from affiliate marketing.
- Make use of all the available marketing channels online. It is always good to start off with one channel to market your products if you are new to online marketing. However as times go by, you need to start exploring other possible marketing channels. If all along you are using article marketing to promote affiliate products, maybe it is time that you explore into other areas such as social media marketing - leverage on the various platforms like Facebook, Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, Squidoo, etc.
- Do not drive traffic directly to the merchant’s sales page using Google Adwords. This is one of the most popular mistakes that many affiliate marketers still commit today. Driving traffic directly to your merchant’s sales page using Google Adwords is a complete waste of money. If you are using Google Adwords to promote affiliate products, you should drive those traffic to your squeeze pages or a page which offers products comparison. Drive it to your own site!
Hope that these 5 tips can aid you in your journey as an affiliate marketer.
