However, to write articles consistently everyday is not an easy task. When you are online, there are just too much distractions: checking emails, going to Warrior Forum, checking website statistics, surfing websites, reading blogs, etc. And by the time you know, few hours have just passed by. Therefore, it is important for you to focus if you really want to see results from your article marketing effort.

There is a saying on the Internet that if you want to be good with article marketing, you need to churn out articles first. The benchmark of writing one article was set not more than 10 minutes, churning out at least 4 articles per hour, 8 articles per day. However, I beg to differ. I think that article marketing is not about how fast you can write an article (although if you can write fast and produce quality content, please carry on), it is about how quality the content is. Is your content interesting enough for your readers and entice them to find out more information on your site? Are you providing value to your readers with your articles? Are you writing articles that provide solutions to solve a particular problem in a niche market? Article Marketing 101 is to provide readers with value… once they feel that they have received value from your articles, they will definitely check out your website in your article byline.

So my suggestion to you is: do not rush to churn out those articles every day, you will just get sick and tried of writing someday. To begin with, tell yourself to spend at least 2 hours per day to write articles - 2 articles per hour. Give yourself a theme to write each day. For example, if you are into the fat loss niche, there are many different types of content you can write about. For example, losing stomach fat, losing love handles, dieting, getting a toned abs, exercises to lose weight, etc. Tell yourself that you will focus on 1 theme each day. Then, spend 1 hour to research the Internet and gather information about the theme.

Once you have gathered the necessary information, you will move on to write the articles. The trick here is, during that 2 hours that you are going to spend writing, do not surf net, check emails, read blogs etc.  Only write! 2 hours of writing each day is definitely manageable for anyone who has the desire to succeed in article marketing and make money online. Imagine: just by spending a total of 3 hours (1 hour of research, 2 hours of writing) to churn out 4 articles every day, how many articles can you churn out each month (provided you take Saturday and Sunday off)? That is a massive 80 articles per month!!! And you are only working 3 hours daily… can you see the impact those 80 articles can make to your affiliate income bottom line?

To succeed in article marketing, it is all about ACTION. When it is time to write, is time to write. Just do it. If you are new to article marketing, I know that it is hard for you to write the first few articles. However, article marketing is all about practices - the MORE you write, the BETTER you become. The FASTER you start to write your first article, the FASTER you will pick up the skill and reap the rewards.

So do not procasntinate anymore, start writing.

The best thing I like about Squidoo is that Google loves it. If you create a solid lens with lots of unique content, you will actually get some nice long tail traffic to your lens.  Squidoo itself has a very high PageRank (PR) which already helps in Google rankings, and with solid unique content, you can capitalise on the long-tail effect of SEO. So, Squidoo is definitely a great tool for affiliate marketers to promote products on the Internet.

In this post, let me share with you how I use Squidoo to make money online… (I am not talking about the Google Adsense royalties here)

My strategy of using Squidoo to make money online is to drive lots of traffic to my lens and promote affiliate products from there. Squidoo allows you to place direct affiliate links on your lens, which makes life much easier for most affiliates… Although sometimes, I may choose to drive my Squidoo traffic to my squeeze pages, so that I can capture their name and email addresses first before promoting products to them.

So how do you drive traffic to Squidoo? Simple - Articles and SEO. The first strategy that I usually use is to write articles with content that is related to my lens and submit them to EzineArticles.com. However, do take note that EzineArticles.com is getting more competitive nowadays… so make sure that you have done your research for the market/industry that you wish to enter.

When your articles are ranked high on EzineArticles, you will get a lot of eyeballs for your articles. If your articles are well written, you will get a nice Click-Through-Rate (CTR) to your Squidoo lens. By driving the traffic from your articles to your Squidoo lens, you are giving your lens link juice (which helps in SEO), as well as pushing your lens to obtain a higher Lens Rank. The higher your Lens Rank in a category, the more traffic you will get from the Squidoo readers. In summary, by getting your articles to rank high in EzineArticle category, you are getting lots of traffic from EzineArticle readers. In return, these Ezinearticle readers will visit your Squidoo lens and help your lens to achieve higher Lens Ranks (where you will get another surge of traffic from Squidoo readers again…)

The second strategy to increase traffic to your lens is to write solid, keyword-targeted and unique content. Content is king when it comes to SEO. With Squidoo link popularity, you already have a first-hand advantage. What you need to do is to spend some time to do a thorough research on the topic that you intend to write, and create solid content for your lens. Include important keywords as the title for each module (e.g. Text module, Feedback module, etc). Once you have created your lens, publish it. However, things do not stop here. The next thing you should do is to get some back links for your lens. You can write articles and use ArticleMarketer’s submission service to get some decent back links. Also, do sumbit your lens to various social book marking sites like Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, etc. Oh ya… remember to ping your lens too.

Once you have done an initial link building for your lens, observe the traffic for a while. Through Squidoo admin panel, you can actually get a bird-eye view of the traffic for every lens that you have created thus far. You may also want to update your lens regularly with new content, links, videos, etc.

Now, it comes to the most important matter of all… how do you monetize your Squidoo lens?  Other than Google Adsense, you can promote affiliate products on your lens. If your overall content is relevant to the products that you promote, YOU WILL GET SALES. Period. One very common strategy that a lot of affiliate marketers use is to create lens that talk about product reviews. The keywords that they target when they write product review lens are usually very targeted. This means 2 things: you will have lesser competition on Google (your lens will stand a higher chance to obtain high rankings for various keywords) and people who found your lens through these keywords are usually buyers. Why? Because these people who are searching for reviews of a particular product already have the intention of buying. They just need to get some unbiased reviews before they make the final purchase decision. So it is either they buy through your affiliate links or from other affiliate marketers.

I do encourage you to build your own squeeze page to collect names and email addresses before sending your lens readers to the merchant’s sales page. This is because if you are driving them directly to the sales page and they do not buy immediately, you lose them forever. With a squeeze page, at least you have their email addresses which you can use Follow-Up and regular Broadcast messages to get your direct and back-end sales.

Last but not least, to be successful at Squidoo marketing, keyword research is very important. You need to know what are the keywords you should target so that you can come up with keyword-optimized content.

Many affiliate marketers use squeeze pages to drive opt-ins. Personally I think that a squeeze page is very efficient in getting opt-ins.  A well-crafted squeeze page is very focused on enticing visitors to opt in. Usually, it will have a very attractive headline which acts as an “offer statement”. It is somehow similar to a traditional IM sales page but a sales page is much longer in content. As you can see, the page is clear of other advertising like adsense or banner ads - it is very focused on delivering the message across to the visitors and entice them to opt in. (but I just find that the youTube video is kind of cheesy…)

A list is an asset and you should start building if you have not done so. Through your list, you can recommend, cross-sell, up-sell other affiliate products to your subscribers as long as you feel that your subscribers will benefit from those products. One thing to note is that any product that you recommend must be something that you truely think that it will be beneficial to your subscribers. Your subscribers are your loyal friends, you will not want to recommend rubbish to your friends am I right? So make sure that you review an affiliate product before any recommendation. You will not want your subscribers to lose trust in you.

So once you are getting opt-ins, you should start creating your follow-up and regular broadcast messages to your subscribers. Follow-up messages are meant to drive backend-sales and it is fantastic to do up-selling and cross-selling in these messages. Personally, I use regular broadcast messages to make announcement, new product launch, or any time-sensitive offer that I want my subscribers to know about.  It is all about the number games - the more quality subscribers you get into your list, the more backend sales you will get in the future.

One thing that you absolutely must do is to split test your squeeze page. Do you know that sometimes by changing the headline of your page, you can increase your opt-in conversion by at least 1%? And mind you - 1% may seems very little for you now… but let says that your squeeze page gets 1000 unique visitors per day. By just increasing your conversion rate by 1%, you are getting extra 10 opt-ins each day and additional 300 subscribers each single month - all by JUST making a small change to the headline and split test against the original copy. And to me, 300 additional opt-ins each month by just doing split testing of my page is definitely worth it - just imagine how much extra backend sales you can make in a year from this “extra” opt-ins.

If you have a Google account, you can use the tool for free. It has very clear instruction to guide you to set up your split testing experiment.
